Equipment

  • 14 2-Ounce Shot Glasses
  • Pourable Measuring Cup I use a 2 cup size
  • Frosting Bag optional for garnishing
  • Ateco #824 Frosting Tip optional for garnishing
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Mixing Spoon

Ingredients

  • 1 Box Cherry Jello 3 ounces
  • 1 Box Lemon Jello 3 ounces
  • 2 ½ Cups Boiling Water divided
  • 1 ½ Cups Chilled Vodka divided
  • ¼ Teaspoon Gold Luster Dust
  • Cool Whip for garnishing
  • Dark Red Jimmy Sprinkles for garnish
  • Gold Sanding Sugar for garnish

Instructions

  • Line up your shot glasses on a flat, easily moveable surface such as a small cookie sheet.
  • Place the cherry jello and 1 ¼ cups boiling water in a medium mixing bowl and stir until the jello is dissolved.
  • Add ¾ cup chilled vodka to the bowl and stir.
  • Using a pourable measuring cup, or what you have on hand, fill each shot glass about half full with the jello.
  • Chill for 2 hours or until fully set.
  • Place the lemon jello and 1 ¼ cups boiling water in a clean medium mixing bowl.
  • Stir until the jello has dissolved.
  • Add ¾ cup chilled vodka to a small mixing bowl and add the luster dust.
  • It’s important that the luster dust go in last. Stir until fully mixed.
  • Add the gold mixture to the lemon jello bowl and stir well.
  • Fill each shot glass the rest of the way, leaving just a pinch of headroom.
  • Chill for 2 hours or until fully set.
  • To garnish, place cool whip in a frosting bag using an Ateco #824 frosting tip, and place a swirl of whipped cream on top of each shot.
  • Sprinkle with the dark red jimmies and finish it up with a dusting of gold luster dust.
  • Enjoy!

Notes

  • Do not garnish the jello shots if you don’t plan on serving them right away. To make in advance, store in the fridge, covered, for up to 3 days, without garnishing. If garnished, do not store.
  • If serving in glass shot glasses, including mini spoons is super handy since getting the jello out isn’t as easy as with plastic containers.
  • The gold luster dust does not change the texture or flavor of the shot.
  • Some of the luster dust may settle at the bottom of your mixing bowl. This is ok and common.
  • The luster dust will be its most gorgeous when you’re stirring it into the jello, however, it won’t look as swirly once chilled, but it will still be very sparkly!
  • You don’t have to use the frosting bag and frosting tip to garnish, that’s just how I got the final look you see in the photos. It makes for a gorgeous presentation and makes garnishing much quicker.
  • Do not pour the second layer of jello if the liquid is too hot. It will melt the bottom layer and start mixing colors. It feels luke warm to your finger, then you’re safe to go ahead and pour the second layer.
  • Do not add more alcohol or you chance your jello shots not setting up, which will make it impossible to make two separate, clean layers.
