Whipped Kool-Aid
Whipped Kool-Aid is the most fun you can have with three ingredients. Kool-Aid, sugar, and heavy whipping cream come together in just 10 minutes and turn that ordinary glass of Kool-Aid into a colorful, fluffy, show-stopping treat perfect for parties, BBQs, and hot afternoons in the backyard.
Team it up with a French fry board and you've got yourself an absolute crowd pleaser.

This one is pure nostalgia in a glass- just like my M&Ms Easter Jello shots. If you grew up on Kool-Aid, you're going to love what happens when you whip the powder into cream- it turns that classic flavor into something fluffy, thick, and almost dessert-like on top of a cold pour of the drink itself.
It's the kind of recipe that works just as well for a kid's birthday party as it does for an adults-only backyard cookout, with a splash of vodka stirred into the base.

Why you'll Love this Recipe
- With just three ingredients and 10 minutes, this recipe couldn't be simpler, and it looks (and tastes) like you spent way more effort than you did- just like my Fruity Pebbles margarita.
- You can match the color (or flavor) to a party theme, a holiday, or just whatever flavor your kids are obsessed with this week.
- It works perfectly for both kids and adults. You can keep it family-friendly or add a splash of vodka to the base for a grown-up summer party version.
Recipe Ingredients
- Kool-Aid: To make the base drink in the pitcher, and to be whipped into the cream for the topping. I used Blue Raspberry Lemonade and Mixed Berry Blue for the color, but any flavor works well.
- Sugar: To sweeten the whipped cream topping. Don't skip this- the cream needs the sugar both for flavor and to help stabilize it as it whips.
- Heavy whipping cream: For that thick, fluffy, cloud-like topping. It needs to be cold straight from the fridge for best results- I realized this when I made my whipped cream Jello shots.
See the recipe card below for exact quantities.
Recipe Variations, Additions, and Substitutions
- Flavor switch: Tropical Punch Kool-Aid gives a warm coral color, Cherry gives a bright red, Grape gives deep purple, and Watermelon gives a gorgeous pink. Try using whatever you prefer. You can also mix two flavors together in the whipped cream for a swirled effect.
- Make it boozy: For an adults-only version, stir a splash of vodka or coconut rum into the chilled Kool-Aid in the pitcher before pouring and keep the whipped cream topping exactly the same. Pair it alongside the crown cran apple shooter for a complete party drinks lineup.
- Dairy-free: Substitute the heavy whipping cream with full-fat coconut cream (refrigerated overnight so it separates and thickens), and whip it the same way.
- Low sugar: Use a sugar substitute like erythritol or stevia in the same quantity. You can also use sugar-free Kool-Aid if you can get your hands on it.
How to Make Whipped Kool-Aid

- Prepare the Kool-Aid as per package instructions. Refrigerate until you're making the whipped topping.

- In the bowl of a stand mixer, pour in the cold heavy whipping cream and set up the whisk attachment.

- Add in the sugar and Kool-Aid and whisk until the cream forms stiff peaks.

- Fill up clear glasses with the refrigerated Kool-Aid and ice until they are about two-thirds full. Top with a generous scoop of the whipped cream and serve immediately.
Recipe Tips and Tricks
- Make sure your whipped cream is really cold. Take it straight from the fridge to the mixer.
- Watch for stiff peaks, not just soft peaks. The cream should hold its shape completely when you lift the whisk. Under-whipped cream will melt into the drink quickly instead of sitting beautifully on top.
- Chill the Kool-Aid base fully before serving. Pouring warm Kool-Aid over ice just dilutes it. Mix it ahead of time and let it chill properly in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
- Make the whipped cream just before serving. It can be refrigerated for up to 2 hours, but if it starts to deflate, give it a quick re-whip for 30 seconds before topping the glasses.
- You can prep the pitcher of Kool-Aid the night before, fill glasses with ice, and whip the cream 15 minutes before guests arrive. It takes just minutes to assemble and looks like you went all out.
- For an extra special touch, garnish with fresh berries, a slice of lemon (like I did with my sweet tea Jello shots) or even a small candy. These little additions can make your drink look even more appealing and add a bit of extra flavor.
Serving Ideas & Suggestions
Whipped Kool-Aid is a natural fit for summer birthday parties, Fourth of July cookouts, pool parties, or practically any occasion. Set up a little DIY station with a few Kool-Aid flavors and let kids (and adults) pick their own color.
For a full summer party spread, pair these alongside fun snacks like the taco charcuterie board, the creamy Southwestern corn dip with chips, or the always-popular slow cooker sausage cheese dip. Together they make a spread that has something for everyone. If you're looking for more colorful summer desserts to round things out, try my no churn Americone dream ice cream which is another crowd-pleaser.

Recipe FAQs
You can prepare and chill the Kool-Aid drink in the refrigerator beforehand. However, I recommend making the whipped cream just before serving to ensure it's fresh and fluffy.
Yes. A hand mixer works just as well. Use the whisk attachment and mix on medium-high speed for 3 to 5 minutes until stiff peaks form. A manual whisk technically works too, but it'll take significantly more effort and time.
The whipped cream topping is best served immediately after making it. If you need to prep ahead, you can refrigerate it in a covered bowl for up to 2 hours. If it starts to deflate, give it a 30-second re-whip before topping the glasses.
